Squad Democrat Files Bill to Abolish ICE the Same Week the Supreme Court Expanded Their Power

Rep. Delia Ramirez, a Squad Democrat from Illinois, introduced something called the "Reimagining Safety Act" this week. The bill would abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement entirely. She filed it the same week the Supreme Court handed ICE expanded deportation powers, including the ability to deport illegal immigrants to third countries.

Timing has never been the Squad's strong suit.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin responded the way a man does when he's watching someone file a noise complaint during a hurricane. "Radical leftists are calling to defund the police and abolish DHS," Mullin said. "It's NEVER going to happen. Our 270,000 DHS patriots are keeping Americans SAFE, unlike this open-borders politician who refuses to prioritize Americans over illegal aliens."

Ramirez offered the kind of statement that writes its own punchline. "Every day, Americans wake up with a new reason to dismantle DHS, reimagine safety, and build something that honors our shared humanity," she said. That's a sitting member of Congress arguing we should tear down the agency that includes the Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the people who stop convicted rapists from living in your neighborhood — and replace it with something that "honors our shared humanity."

What Ramirez didn't mention — what she never mentions — is who ICE is actually pulling off American streets. As Patriot News Alerts reported, DHS highlighted specific recent arrests from operations in her own backyard: Rumen Georgriev, a Bulgarian national convicted of rape with a weapon. Abdukadir Haji, a Somali national with sex assault and rape convictions. Samuel Reyes-Silva, a Cuban national convicted of robbery and homicide.

Those are the people the Reimagining Safety Act would leave in American communities. Ramirez's bill doesn't distinguish between the bureaucratic apparatus and the agents physically arresting violent criminals. It's a blanket abolition — the political equivalent of shutting down hospitals because you don't like the parking lot.

A DHS spokesperson pointed out that Ramirez "should be thanking our law enforcement for removing these dangerous criminals from her district, NOT vilifying law enforcement." The spokesperson added: "While sanctuary politicians smear ICE, law enforcement is arresting criminals and saving countless American lives."

Ramirez fired back, calling Mullin's response "cheap lies and fearmongering" and claiming that "dismantling DHS and building something new is part of how we hold them accountable, stop corruption, and end their lawlessness." Hold them accountable for what? Arresting a man convicted of rape with a weapon? The "lawlessness" she's describing is law enforcement. The corruption she's fighting is deportation. She's reimagining safety by making communities less safe.

DHS also noted a 1,300% increase in assaults on ICE and CBP officers — thirteen hundred percent — which makes Ramirez's bill read less like policy and more like a workplace harassment campaign filed with a congressional seal.

The Reimagining Safety Act has zero chance of passing. Everyone knows it. Ramirez knows it. This is a press release dressed up as legislation, a fundraising email with a bill number attached. But what it reveals is worth noting: even after the Supreme Court explicitly expanded ICE's authority this very week, even after years of watching the border crisis unfold on live television, the Squad's position hasn't budged. Not toward the center. Not toward reality. Not even toward the voters in their own districts who'd prefer convicted murderers not live next door.

"Reimagine safety." The residents of Ramirez's district who shared a neighborhood with Samuel Reyes-Silva before ICE removed him don't need to reimagine anything. They already know what unsafe looks like.
